Artist Bio
Born and raised amidst the rugged landscapes of Scotland’s East coast, Mark developed an early appreciation for the interplay of light, colour and form. On a visit to the Musee D’Orsay in Paris, he first became inspired by the Impressionist movement and the capture of fleeting moments and atmospheric nuance. Exploring his own emotional response to each scene captured in time, Mark’s process is more intuitive than deterministic. Every painting is a navigation to an unknown place; a journey to explore the harmonious coexistence of traditional techniques and contemporary expression.
Under the valued mentorship of established artists, Mark has developed his own fusion of expressive brushwork, vibrant colour palettes and exploration of light and shade to create works with an ethereal ambiance, capturing the essence of a specific moment in time.
Mark was a finalist in the prestigious Fisher's Ghost Art Prize in 2023 and 2024 and is a current finalist in the Lane Cove Art Award 2024.
