The Third Last Thing I Ever Want to Do (But Here We Are)

As an artist, there are three things I absolutely do not want to do and this is one of them!

Third last: Work on a website. Update my bio AGAIN! Write calls to action like Check out my work! (see what I did there though?)
It’s soul-debilitating stuff. But if I don’t do it, no one else will and all my paintings will just sit quietly in the studio, looking great - but kind of hanging around like my kids in the holidays. And while I love their company, they’re starting to take up too much space. JUST GO SOMEWHERE! And stop eating everything! And pick up your shoes! Sorry was I talking about my paintings or my kids.

Second last: As all artists know, I really do not want to ask people to buy my art. Some artists give half their earnings away just to avoid that conversation!
And the minute I do it I feel like an insurance salesman or one of those callers that tells you about a free kitchen styling consultation...(I maybe did that one summer)

And the very last thing I ever want to do, Ever!:
Contact people who have previously bought or liked my art and remind them I still exist. Because, what if I’m annoying? What if I send you this and you think, “Oh no, not him again”? And then I’ve managed to irritate the people who are literally the most important to me (besides family… IF they pick up their shoes).

But here’s the thing: I’m still painting. I’m still teaching. I’m still showing up in the studio every week trying to wrestle light, emotion, and colour into something meaningful. And I really want to keep sharing that with you.

So, if you’ve bought from me before, thank you — sincerely.

If you’ve followed my work, come to a class, or even just looked at a painting and thought, “Huh, not bad,” — I appreciate you.

And if you’d like to see what’s new, maybe even bring a piece home, well... now’s a good time.

And if you’re an artist too, I see you: the people who crave attention but can’t stand being looked at, so decided against stand-up comedy and picked the one profession where you expose your soul on canvas instead.

If you’re my kids…pick up your shoes!
